    Check out Maryland if you’ve got horse lovers in your party! Assateague and Chincoteague have a lot to offer campers. Near the ocean with some great history, you can get a peek at the ponies, making this one of the U.S.’s best summer camping spots.

The Oregon coast – With access to coastal reaching state parks and backpacking camps sprinkled throughout the nearby forests, you’ll have plenty of places to pick the perfect summer camping spot. With trails nearby you can head inland, or stay right near the beach. There are sand dunes, riding on the beach, fishing and a variety of other fun summer activities to keep you occupied. 
  3.  Mark Twain International Forest, Missouri – 750 miles worth of trails, kayaking, gorgeous forest glades – if the scenery isn’t a selling point for you the endless possibilities to experience the outdoor sports should be. With over 49 camping areas available, even during reduced capacity you’re bound to find the perfect place. With roughly an hour and a half drive to St. Louis, you can take in some of the sites there during your trip.
  4. Sequoia National Park, California – This gorgeous, ancient redwood forest will take your breath away. With all the standard trails, hiking, fishing and so much more, you’ll take in a bit of history while getting in touch with nature. Permits are usually required in this area, so be sure to check in and see what you’ll need on their site. Sequoia National Park is another historic treat!   5. Big Bend National Park, Texas – Gorgeous open skies, rafting, canoeing, kayaking and a variety of other water activities, camping in this national park should definitely be on your bucket list. Check out the Rio Grande and enjoy the dry desert scenery. Campsites are limited, and with reduced capacity you’ll definitely want to book a reservation
  6. Mount Rushmore National Memorial, South Dakota – Aside from the impressive and enormous rock monument carved into the face of the rock, the surrounding areas have plenty to offer when it comes to camping spots. Check out the black hills, and get a bit of history at the monument itself.
